Young Womens Camp- Then and Now

Young Women Camp goodie bags-  For 15 years I served as staff at YW Camp in various assignments.  I finally decided that it was time to let some other very talented person help out and 3 years ago was my last year (for now).

Each year at camp time I think (and miss a little) of the fun the young women and adult staff will have at camp.  This year I decided to do something special for the girls attending camp.  The theme is "For such a time as this.....".  This was not the easiest theme to work with.  The units will represent different eras in time.  I couldn't think of a thing "clever" to do.  I thought of the "Time" part of the theme and decided to do something with that.  I thought of a clever saying that is ALWAYS used at camp about getting where you need to be on time.  I then went to the dollar store and found teacher aids with clocks on them, snack baggies, "Dots" candy, and jawbreakers candy. I put it all together and you can see how it turned out.  I think the girls will enjoy the treat along with the reminder to be on time.  It was fun to do something that I totally just "wanted to do for fun" instead of "having" to come up with something.

This is Now-Quilting Again......

In my time off this summer I completed a quilt for my newest grandson, Colter.  I think it turned out great!  I felt a bit rusty as it has been a long time since I made a "traditional" quilt.  Used to be I was making quilts all the time- that was then.  Now I seem to have so much more going on- different interests and hobbies get my attention and there is only so much time in the day.  It was fun getting back to some sewing.

Then and Now- Raspberry Picking and Jam Making

 Raspberry Picking-

I remember when I was young picking berries with my grandma, grandpa, and parents.  My aunt and uncle always had an awesome patch.  When my kids were young we would go pick berries at Aunt Karen's house or my mom or grandma would take my kids picking.

This last week I went raspberry            picking with two of my daughter in                      laws and two of my grand kids.  It brought back a lot of memories of when my kids were young and when I was young.  We picked 37 pounds in a couple of hours.  In the following days I put up 30 cups of low sugar raspberry jam and froze a few bags of raspberries for baking.

It is so fun to do things with my kids and grandkids that I did as a child.  I love to think that I am making memories for them that they will have for years to come.

That Was Then.....Ribbon Roses

Ribbon Roses-

When I was young I had a grandmother that would make these by the dozens.  After she passed away I rescued this handful of  ones that she made.  I have never made one- probably never will- but every time I see a rose made out of ribbon I think of her!  Funny, the things that we remember and are important to us!

This is Now.....Pinterest Party

So..... I am hosting a.......I think that I will call it a:

SPRING   Pinterest Logo    PARTY  !!!!

Here is what I did to get started:

I found eight people that would just love to come!

Each guest is choosing a spring or Easter themed craft/food craft that they found on Pinterest Logo

Each guest is letting me know what their craft/activity is.  The craft/activity should not cost more than $2 per person.  The craft/activity should not take more than 10-15 minutes to assemble.  It is okay for two guest to go together on an activity (double the cost and double the time)

Before the date of the party guests will put together a kit for each person attending the party.  If guests are doing a food craft they can have all of the ingredients ready for a quick assembly.

The night of the party each guest brings their craft to share with everyone else at the party.  We will take turns assembling each guests chosen craft/activity.  At the end of the night guests will all go home with 8 or so cute spring/Easter crafts to decorate our home, make more of to share with friends and family, whatever we choose to do!

Each guest should also all bring a simple  appetizer (that they found on Pinterest, of course!) to share.

I am posting below my project that I will be doing!!!!  Please check it out!  I am so excited for a fun evening of crafts and laughter and food and fun!

close up S0, so, so cute!

So, above is the "invite" that I sent out to seven of my close friends/relatives.
I got a speedy "YES" response from all of them!

We are so excited!  The Pinterest Party is this coming weekend.  I will take lots of pictures to share on the blog.

I think this is going to be an awesome event!  You should try one!  I work at an elementary school and think that it would be fun to have a "teacher" based Pinterest Party, or a "Summer Pinterest Party, or.......

The possibilities are ENDLESS- just like Pinterest !!!!!

Let me know what you think of my idea and stay tuned for the after party post with pictures!

That Was Then.....small plastic figurines

I thought that I would share a very fond memory in my very first "That Was Then" post.

When I was a young girl my grandparents had a cabin on Lake Cavenaugh in northwest Washington state.  I remember piling into the car for the 1 1/2 hour drive to the cabin.  I have so many fond memories of that cabin and the time that our family spent there.  Pictured at the left are small plastic figurines that my grandmother kept in a tin at the cabin for the grandkids to play with on our visits.  There was probably 30 or 40 figures that we whiled away the hours posing and playing with.  When my grandmother passed away I came across about a dozen of these.  I claimed them as mine and have kept them in a special place for many years since.  I take them out every so often and smile at the fond memories that they bring up.  I have a few more special momentos stored away in that special place that I will share with you on future posts.

I have to start somewhere....

I am not sure where this will all go- I need a way to post pictures of an awesome party that I have planned.  I will blog more about that later.  I know that I will use this blog to share the "That Was Then" parts of my life.  I will also use it to share some of my day to day discoveries that will be the "This Is Now" parts of my life.  So here is my start and we will see where it goes.....
